Prism: When and How to convert your magic to the opposite School

Prisms are Awesome! They allow us to fight our own school magic by turning it into the magic of another school and thereby avoiding that pesky resist. The resist percentage gets higher in each world. Every school except for Balance gets a prism. This makes it tough on Balance.  Not only does the prism change the magic to a non-resistant strain, but it BOOSTS the damage because it is the opposite school.

Before a battle with enemies from your own school, make sure that you have your prisms loaded into your deck.

Once in the battle, make sure that you  place your prisms BEFORE you place your traps, however you can go ahead and Blade. This is where a wand for your Opposite school comes in handy. Because most 'Opposite schools' carry a -70% shield for the school you are converting damage to. If those shields are place BEFORE your convert you need to be able to break the shield or you waste your damage. (The Death School will not have to worry about this until later, as Death does not shield Life unless there is a balance minion on their side.)  Discard and pass until your prisms are found. Cast the prism, then add any traps you wish to use and attack. These can even be used in PVP to avoid shields.(MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A RESHUFFLE CARD OR TC BEFORE DISCARDING ALL ATTACKS!)

Here is a list of Prisms:

Death Prism- Converts Death Damage to Life damage

Life Prism- Converts Life Damage to Death Damage

Storm Prism- Converts Storm Damage to Myth Damage.

Myth Prism- Converts Myth Damage to Storm Damage

Ice Prism- Converts Ice Damage to Fire Damage

Fire Prism- Converts Fire Damage to Ice Damage

A tip for later use: List of schools that boost on each other.

Once you have mastered the art of the Prism, you can use it to boost your damage on schools other than your own. The trick is knowing which schools are boosted by the types of damage available to you.

Death- Life, Myth, Balance

Life- Death, Myth, Balance

Myth- Storm, Death, Balance

Storm- Fire, Myth

Fire- Ice, Life

Ice- Fire, Death

Dying your clothes and Renaming Pets

In the Wizard City Shopping District there is a shop on the corner when you enter. It has a paint brush on the sign. Go inside approach the vendor and hit X.

If the clothes you have can be dyed then you now have the option to set your colors to whatever you would like for a small Gold fee. The price varied depending on the equipment that you wish to dye.

You can also rename all pets for 500 Gold and some can even be dyed to match your outfit.

Stitching- What is it?

Stitching is a nifty way that Kings Isle came up with to let us choose our own style. It costs Crowns, though it is rather reasonable at only 100 crowns per item.

Eloise Merryweather is found in every World, she is always near Prospector Zeke.  And her title is Seamstress. She also sells equipment for each world, though this equipment does not have any statistics. They are items made to be stitched to your out-dated gear.

To Stitch approach Eloise and hit X. A menu will open, choose Stitch Items.

CAREFULLY choose the appearance of the item on the left, and the statistics of the item on the right. Click on each item that you would like to merge. Make absolutely sure that you have it the way you want it before you click Create. If your selections are correct, hit yes, and ta daa! You will have to equip your stitched item by opening your backpack and equipping as normal.

Once you have stitch the items they will be removed from your inventory. The new item will have the look of the old item, but be called the name of the item that the stats are from. This will make the item No Auction as well, meaning it can not be sold at the bazaar.  This works only on Hats, Robes, Boots, and Wands.

No Auction? No Trade? But I can't use them!

Occasionally you get items in your backpack that say No Auction. What this means is that it can not be sold in the Bazaar. Bazaar prices fluctuate with the number of the item that are available. This does not mean that you can not sell it. Only that you can't sell it at the bazaar.  There are 3 ways to sell this item, but 5 ways to get it out of your backpack.  This works for Crown Items that you do not want or need as well.

To Sell The No Auction Item:
Enter a shopping district and choose the store that coincides with the item, in this case, we have boots, so we'll go to the shoe store. The type of store is indicated by the sign hanging over the entrance door. Approach the vendor and press X. The menu will open. At the top of the menu it will say BUY or SELL. Click on the Sell tab, highlight the No Auction Item and choose to sell it.  You can sell all items here but you will get less gold than you would from the bazaar for Auction items.

The Second way to Sell this Item is the "Quick Sell" option in your backpack. Hit B on your keyboard to open your backpack. Select the item that you wish to 'quick sell' and use the icon of the little gold bag at the bottom of the menu to sell it. You will not make much gold this way, and this is a last resort when you're trying to accumulate gold.
The final way to "Sell" your item is to Feed your pet. Just like with Quick sell, open your backpack and select the item to be fed. Click the icon of the piggle eating the cracker. You will be rewarded with either Gold, Gold and Treasure Cards or Reagents, OR you will receive Pet Experience. You must have a pet equipped to use this option.

Be Careful when using ANY of these options, because once a No Auction Item  is gone it can not be recovered. You WILL NOT be able to buy it again in the bazaar though you may be able to go back and fight the same creature to get it back but other than that it is gone.

NO TRADE

These items are not allowed to be placed in a shared bank and switched between wizards.  These items usually have excellent statistics and it makes you sad that you can't use them on your other wizard. However they can usually be sold at the bazaar for a great deal of gold. Sometimes they are marked No Auction and No Trade. If this is the case, follow the steps above for No Auction Items.

The Fourth way to rid these items from your backpack is to place them in your bank for safe keeping in case you make a wizard later that the No Auction Items can be used on.

The final way to get rid of these items is to Trash them.  To do this you will need to place them first in your bank and then select them and 'move to trash'. You will receive nothing for this, the item simply disappears from your inventory and is gone forever.  Why do that when you can make a little gold off them?

Pet Training

Pet training is done in the Pet Pavilion in Wizard City.  You train your pets by playing the mini games and rewarding them with pet snacks when you have completed a game. Playing a game costs energy (the green globe).
  • Training a Baby to Teen costs 2 energy.
  • Training a Teen to Adult Costs 4 Energy.
  • Training Adult to Ancient costs 6 Energy.
  • Training Ancient to Epic costs 8 Energy.
  • Training Epic to Mega costs 10 Energy.
Every time you level a pet from baby it will gain 1 Talent (red) and 1 Ability (blue).  Talents sometimes  help the player when the pet is equipped during a battle. Abilities sometimes help the Pet when entered in a Pet Derby.

Talents and Abilities are decided the MOMENT the egg hatches. Each pet is only able to gain 4 talents and abilities at this time.  There are a lot of myths about training pets. Training a certain way or feeding certain snacks will not improve the chance of the pet to GET an ability. However, how you train your pet can effect the percentage of whatever boost your pet gets as well as it's ability to cast spells.
If your pet were to get a healing spell, making sure that the WILL bar is high will effect how often your pet uses the healing spell. Some Heal spells are cast more often than others, Spritely for instance is cast more  frequently than Unicorn. If you scroll over the bars it will tell you what each bar will help to increase.

Let's say our pet receives a Damage boost. In this case you will want to train Strength and Will. You can increase the number of points from the training session by choosing to feed a snack that offers points in these areas.

The number in the top left of the card tells you the 'rank' of the snack. The school icon on the right tells you what school pets may 'like or love' this snack. When a pet Likes or Loves a snack you are rewarded with extra training points. This is the only advantage to feeding certain snacks to certain pets.  To find out what school your pet is, hit B it will open your backpack. On the right hand side of the screen, click the Piggle icon, this will open the pet tab. The pet you currently have equipped will be the only one you see unless you hit the arrow key. This page will show you everything to know about your pet.

The pets name is on the top. The arrows on either side allow you to see your other pets in your backpack.
Beneath the name there will be a school icon, this is your pet's school, the type of pet will be beside it. Beneath that is the progress bar, this will turn green as you train your pet to Mega.
The pet in this picture is a death pet. If your not a death wizard, you may not want to train this pet, unless it has abilities that could also help your school. If you just really want this pet but with different talents, you can train it to adult and try to hatch the same pet but with talents that help your school, you would do this by hatching with a pet from your school. Hatching is not free. In addition to having an Adult pet, it costs in-game Gold, it is usually between 30,000 and 50,000 gold depending on what you are trying to hatch together.

More in depth pet guides can be found all over the internet.

The Compass

The compass is very handy. It is located at the bottom Right of your screen next to your Spell Book.  By clicking on the compass it's self it will tag locations near you and help you head in the right direction when you need to find something in the area, you can also check your map by pressing M.  If you no longer wish to see the locations names in the bubbles click on the compass again to turn it off. (You can also use the "N" Key to turn the Compass on and off, N is for Navigation.)

The first button on the compass you will notice is the one that contains the four yellow arrrows.  You can click this button and no matter where you are you will be transported to the "Commons" area of that world. If you are in your home you will return to the "Commons" area of the last world you visited.

The Next Button is the one with the House. This will take you to your dorm room until you buy a house, and then it will take you to your house. While at your house, should you click the Home Button, you will be transported to your Dorm room.

The Next Button is a blue X. This button allows you to Mark an area for Teleporting. You will only be able to use this button if you have enough mana to do so. There are also locations that you can not mark, your home is one of these areas, the only other places that you can't mark are certain dungeons or instances. In this case, you can mark outside the door, this way if you are defeated you can "Walk" back into the instance without losing your place. If you're not sure that you will be able to mark inside a bosses lair, it is best to go ahead and Mark the outside, just in case.

The Last Button on the Compass allows you to Teleport to a Marked Location. When a location has been marked it will be lit up, you can use the button to teleport to the last location marked.  If the button is grey, then no location has been marked.

The Bank In My Dorm Room- What's it for?

When you get items through drops, buying, or picking up they are automatically stored in your backpack. Your Backpack can hold 120 items if you are a member, 90 if you are free to play.  If the allowed number of slots for a certain type of equipment in your backpack is full, all excess pieces you collect are automatically transported to your bank, which you can access from your dormitory or house.

Your bank has 100 slots for storage. There is also a "Shared Bank" We'll get to that in a moment.  To move items back and forth from your backpack to your bank or vice versa, there must be empty slots in the place you want to move them to.

The first thing you should do is use the House button on the bottom right of your screen to take you Home, this will be your dorm room until you buy a house (Available at level 15) and equip it. After you buy a house, you will keep your dorm room, and be able to visit it as well. We'll cover that in another post.

Once you enter the Dorm walk up to your bank and press the letter X on your keyboard. Your bank will open and look like this.

BANK

The Items in your bank may now be transfered to your backpack or to your Shared Bank.
If you wish to sell the items you may move them to your backpack or leave them in your bank and sell them at the bazaar. Some Items are labeled No Auction, these items may still be sold, just not at the bazaar. To do this they will NEED TO BE IN YOUR BACKPACK in order to do this.  They will also need to be in your backpack to be equipped, to do this highlight the item you wish to move and click MOVE TO BACKPACK.  The item is now in your backpack inventory.  You can store everything in your bank that you can carry in your backpack, except for Treasure Cards. Equipment, Housing, Pets, Mounts, Garden Seeds, Reagents, and even Pet Snacks may be stored in your bank.

A Note About Seeds: Each Seed takes up one slot in your backpack, bank, or shared bank. If you have a seed that you do not wish to plant try to sell it at the bazaar so that it doesn't take up space, if you can't sell it at the bazaar, feed it to your pet from your backpack. Sometimes it will give gold, sometimes Gold and Treasure Cards, and other times it will give your pet free Training Experience.

SHARED BANK
Items in your Shared Bank are accessible to ALL THE CHARACTERS ON YOUR ACCOUNT.
To Access the Items in the shared Bank Click the Shared Bank Tab at the top of the menu.  This tab is very useful if you have more than one wizard. It allows you to trade items back and forth between more than one character. If you have only one character it gives you extra storage space. You can now move items to your bank or backpack for use by the wizard you are currently playing.

There are certain Items that you can't place in the Shared Bank. These Items say NO TRADE at the bottom of the description. These are special items that must be either bought at the bazaar or received in battle.  Sometimes you get these items that are for a school that you can not use, you can usually sell them at the bazaar, unless they also say NO AUCTION. You're not stuck with these items, but we'll cover that in another post.

Just like your backpack, you can store everything in your shared bank that you can carry in your backpack, except for Treasure Cards. Equipment, Housing, Pets, Mounts, Garden Seeds, Reagents, and even Pet Snacks may be stored in your bank.

REMOVING A PET FROM THE SHARED BANK WILL DRAIN YOUR ENERGY!
They did this so that people couldn't move the pet around from character to character training it with the energy available on each character, this forces you to either wait until your energy has refilled on it's own or pay crowns to refill the energy bottle.  So I suggest training a pet before you move it to a new character.  :P

Now that you've moved the items around, you may want to equip them.

To do this, you'll need to exit the bank and open your backpack by hitting the letter B or clicking on your spell book. Equip as usual.

Treasure Cards- How to use them

Treasure Cards are special cards that you receive in different ways.  You are allowed to have up to 500  Treasure cards in your backpack at any given time.

You get treasure cards:
  • As a reward from quests and games.
  • From Friends by Trading.
  • As drops from bosses and mob (street) fights.
  • As drops from Garden Harvests
  • You can craft Treasure Cards from your School (The recipes are sold by the school trees.)
  • You can buy them from the Bazaar.
  • You can buy them from certain Non Player Characters called Treasure Card Vendors
  1. Wizard City- Harold Argleston- Commons Library.
  2. Krokotopoia- Zen'ae- Krokotopia Library in the Oasis
  3. Celestia- The Archivist- District of the Stars
  4. Zafaria- Kiliman Copperleaf - Boabab Crown Library
  5. Avalon- Francis Lux- Abbey Road Library
  6. Azteca- Lamat Snake Ink- The Zocalo

To View your Treasure Cards Hit the letter P on your keyboard. This will open your deck. Click the Golden cards at the top right of your backpack. This will open your Treasure cards as well as the sideboard that holds them in your deck. You are only allowed to load so many Treasure Cards at one time, so choose the cards wisely.

To put the cards in your deck, click on the cards you wish to use. The cards from YOUR SCHOOL will be usable with power pips, cards from another school will need the indicated number or pips, in this case a power pip will only count as one pip.

Once the cards are loaded into the deck, they will be accessible during a duel. Here is a good video that will show you exactly how to use a treasure cards, it also explains how to load your deck and use regular spells.

Reporting Other Players

REPORT BUTTON

Someone does not have to be on your friends list in order to report them.  Simply click on the person or their name and then follow the rules listed below.

There are certain things that Wizard101 considers to be a reportable offense and others that we think should be but are not (bullying.)  This is a list from the Wizard 101 Message Boards.

This information is readily available on the Help & Support section of the website.
We appreciate that our players want to make Wizard City the best it can be, and we've placed the tools in your hand to report players for inappropriate behavior. We ask that you use the reporting feature to identify truly egregious behavior, such as creative profanity (swearing around the filters), solicitation of usernames/passwords, predatory threats, racist comments and other such actions as outlined in the Terms of Use. The old story of “the kid that cried wolf” has a lot of bearing in this situation and we trust that all reports received by players are valid and require support intervention.

Because false reporting can be construed and/or used as harassment of other players, we’d like to take a moment to ensure you are aware of what does NOT fall under the category of a reportable offense:

“S/he falsely reported me” or reporting someone for false reporting (2 wrongs don’t make a right)

“Won’t leave my house” (pick your friends wisely and avail yourself of the non-porting option)

“Being rude” (We’re sorry, we can’t enforce good manners. Use the ignore button liberally &/or change realms. It’s wholly up to you to choose to stay around someone that’s not nice to you.)

“Chain Stunning” (admittedly, it’s not much fun for the receiving team, but it’s not a violation of the game rules).

“Scamming” (KingsIsle will NEVER ask for treasure card(s) in exchange for a code. Trading “cards for codes” is done at the players’ own risk. Codes are either fully public or one time use)

“Spamming” (Although the Terms of Use mention spamming, it’s related to email/web posts. Yeah, it’s annoying in game and never of profound statement. Refer to “Being Rude”).

If something you are witnessing falls into the REPORTABLE OFFENSES category, then by all means, click on the player or their name and then click report. A box will then open.

Type a Short explanation,  Swearing, Asking for Password, etc.  Then send the report.

IMPORTANT: THE PERSON BEING REPORTED WILL BE IMMEDIATELY WARNED. They will know that they've been reported and if you're the only one around they will know that you reported them. If you report someone it is best to Ignore them as soon as you send the report. Otherwise, they will likely say some nasty things.  They will more than likely report you as well, however, don't worry about that as long as you've done nothing wrong nothing will happen to you. A chat log of the conversation leading up to the report will be sent with the report to the Game admins and they will be able to see what was said and why the person was reported. When they report you, it is a false report and counts against them, not you. You should not report them again, the admins will sort it out. I know this to be true because it has happened to me. Also, if you PVP expect to be reported, especially if you win.

Oddly enough once you get out of the lower level worlds, mostly Wizard City, you won't need to worry about this. I guess because the people in the other worlds are serious players who are paying members they're focused on the game and not goofing off. There are occasions but they are few and far between. The absolute worst place to be in the middle of these offenses is in the Wizard City commons.

Using the Friend Menu- Add, Remove, Chat, Trade, Hatch, Ignore, & Add to Group

Sometimes while you're playing you run into other people that you would like to play with again. You can do this by adding them as a friend. It is always polite to ask if you can add someone before you do. After you ask and they say yes, left click on the person or their name in the chat box.  A menu will appear.

Click Add this Friend to add them.  This window will then appear, click yes.

The menu that appeared will now look like this.

If you decide that you no longer want to play with this person for whatever reason, you can remove them by selecting that option on the menu.  If they are online when you remove them they may send you another friends request, they may even ask you why you removed them. It is not necessary to add that person back. Simply click on their name in the chat box the menu will appear again, select IGNORE.

If someone asks for your help, open the friend window or click on their name in the chat box and then select Go To Location. You will be taken to where they are. If they are not allowed to have help because it is a solo instance then it will tell you that your friend is busy and does not wish to be disturbed.

By Clicking on Text Chat you can private message that person. Menu chat is the same, a private message but from the selected pre-typed menu.

The Trade button will open a treasure card trade. The other person may not accept and it will tell you that they have cancelled.

The Hatch button will only work in the Hatchery.  It will offer the other player to hatch with your pet.

Ignore does just what it says. You may still see the person after you've ignored them but you can no longer see anything that they are saying to you or anyone else.  A person does not have to be on your friends list to be ignored. All you have to do is to click on the player or their name in the chat box and then choose the IGNORE Option.  I use this a lot when people are saying things that I don't like, for instance circumventing the chat system by using ugly language, making nasty comments, or just being totally annoying.

Add to Group- This option is used for three purposes.

  1. The intention of this button, so that your group of friends (3 or more) can chat together without everyone else seeing what your saying.
  2. People will add you to a group if your friend request is turned off, or if their list is full but you all wish to play together for only a little while. This way you can keep up with one another in dungeons or areas that your all in, but you don't have to actually add each other.
  3. In order to ride a multi-person mount.

You will notice that I didn't cover Reports in this post. They have their own separate entry.

Mounts, what do they do and are they worth it?

White Stag Mount

First, a mount is a WONDERFUL thing to have. Not only do they look cool, but they add 40% speed to your characters travel when they are equipped! This means you move around a lot faster. There are certain places that your mount can't go with you and you will notice the difference in your speed.  If for some reason, you just don't want a mount, you can buy boots in the crown shop for gold that make you move as fast as you would with a mount.

Mounts are available in several ways. You can RENT mounts from Prospector Zeke for gold, this is a 24 hour purchase. The timer starts the moment you buy it and ends the next day at the exact same time.

You can BUY a Permanent mount with crowns (and some with gold) in the crown shop, you own this mount for the lifetime of the game. It is a no sale no trade item that you can't not get rid of other than to trash it. They can be removed from your backpack and placed as an item in your dorm or yard, they run around and play when you do this. It can be quite entertaining.

Mounts available for gold include:

For 50,000 Gold
Chestnut Pony
Enchanted Broom

For 70,000
Black Stallion
Horned Sweeper

For 85,000
Blue Dragon
Royal Lioness

For 90,000
Bengal Tiger
Dark Redwing
Proud Lion

Crown Rentals- These mounts cost less crowns and last for 7 days, during that 7 day rental you have the option to pay the balance of the mount's crown shop price and own that mount permanently.  It's a nifty way to try out a mount and see if you like it before spending the full amount, as some of them are quite pricey.

I don't recommend the larger mounts, as it's hard to see where you're going and increases the possibility of accidentally being drawn into battle unprepared.

You can FARM certain bosses for Temporary (24 hr) mounts, Lady Blackhope in Unicorn way is good for brooms and the occasional chestnut pony.

Special Mounts not available in the Crown shop are recieved one of three ways. Some come with the bundle sets on prepaid cards or from Wizard101.com. It usually includes a mount, house, pet, and gear. Some Only include a Mount, Pet, and gear.

Other Special mounts are available only as ULTRA-RARE drops from crown Packs. There is exactly a 5% chance of getting these mounts from the packs. Every time you buy a pack you only have a 5% chance of getting one, the chance resets with every pack. I do not recommend trying to get a mount this way you could spend every last crown you have and not get anything worth having paid crowns for.

 Two/Three Person Mounts-
These are available only in bundles and packs.
Hydra- Hoard of the Hydra Pack
Skyvern Mount-  Skyvern's Hoard Pack
Blood Raven- Raven's Hoard Pack
Rhino- Super Bundle
Phoenix Mount- Phoenix Hoard Pack
Pterodactyl- Prehistoric Bundle
Tyrannosaurus Rex- Dino Bundle

Seen a mount that you can't find in the Crown Shop and doesn't come in packs? It's probably retired.

Charity mounts are Retired at the end of the promotion and NEVER return, so if you want one buy them when they're available, no second chances on the Charity Mounts:
Fa-La-La-La-La-La Llama
Christmoose
Meowmodon (White Tiger)

Other Retired Mounts That Could Possibly Resurface during Mount-a-palooza event:

Swift Gryphon (From Epic Bundle)
Lobster
Purple Glider (Broom with Purple star on the tip)
Faithful Dragoness
White Mare
 Arthurian Dragon Mount- Retired?

Guide to the Bazaar...

Buying

Buying and selling at the Bazaar is fairly simple. Go to Olde Town in Wizard City. The Bazaar is on the Right as you enter, in front of the NPC Gloria Krendall.  Once you are inside walk up to Elik Silverfist and press X. The store will open for you. Let the items load then check the box that says Usable on the bottom right. Now only the gear you are able to use is available to you and you can't buy anything that you can't use! It will show you the stats of the new gear compared to the stats of the gear you have equipped, this is helpful in making your purchase descisions, but don't buy the first thing you see that is better, keep looking, there could be something even better!.

You can buy more than just gear at the Bazaar. If you click the House with the yellow arrow behind it on the Top Right Corner, it will take you to housing items! You can buy things to decorate your dorm or house with now. (Houses become available at level 15, so save your gold!)  With housing items there are MANY thing you can buy in the bazaar that you can't buy anywhere else. However, there are also items that you can buy cheaper every where else. If you're a bargain hunter like me, go check the furniture shops before you buy from the bazaar, you'd be amazed how much gold you can save!  This is the best place to buy Garden seeds as well, though it's fairly easy to farm these as drops and you're backpack will eventually have more seeds than you can garden at one time.

If you click the same arrow again you will now be in Treasure Cards! And if you click again you're at Pet Snacks to use in training your pet, and Reagents for Crafting.

You can buy everything but pets here.

Selling

Click on the sell tab at the top of the window. The gear in your backpack is now accessible. CAREFULLY choose the items that you want to sell, I can't tell you how many times I've sold something only to have to buy it right back. Luckily they have fixed it so that you can't sell anything that you have equipped, but all other Auction-able items  in your backpack are available for sale. Click Sell, then it will ask if you are sure you want to sell the item, click yes. The gold will appear at the bottom of the page in your total.

You can also sell out of your bank from the bazaar, but be careful not to sell something you are saving.

Pets, where do i get one?

WELL..... Lots of places. LOL!

They come with Prepaid cards that you can redeem for crowns or monthly membership.

They come with bundle cards.

They come from Packs in the Crown Shop.

They come from Drops from bosses.

They come from Hatching.

They Come from Quests. (You get free School specific pets at levels 48, 58, and 78)

You can purchase special pets with PVP and Pet Derby Tickets.

And you can buy them from Vendors around the spiral, Gold and Crowns.

And while you may not have many now, let me assure you, eventually, you'll have so many pets you won't know what to do with them all!

What do pets do?

Well, it depends on the pet. When you train your pet in the pet pavilion, they gain talents as they level from baby to Mega. Some are helpful in battle, by offering boosts. Others are able to heal you on their own, or shield you, or give you an extra blade.

How do my pets get those Talents?

A pets talents are decided the minute that the Egg hatches into a pet. You have no control over what talents they will get it or not get, though you can try to get certain talents by hatching. Each FIRST GENERATION pet has a CHANCE of getting a specific list of talents. You can find out what talents they have by googling Wizard101 Pet And the Pet's Name Like this

Wizard101 Pet Piggle

The best answer is ALWAYS the Wizard101central Wiki Link.

Some pets do ALWAYS get certain talents at a certain level, but not ALL pets get the SAME talents. For instance, not every pet can heal you. Even though you see another pet just like yours do it, doesn't mean that your pet will have that talent.  A great pet guide is available here. It may take some time to load as it is illustrated and VERY detailed.

The Pet that you want is completely up to you, though pets that offer boosts for your school or global boosts are best.

The Crown Shop: Secrets Revealed

Everyone wants SOMETHING from the crown shop, but not everyone has the extra money to buy crowns. If this is the case, take a closer look at the item you want. It may be available for In Game Gold! That's right, some of the coolest mounts, housing items, and hottest outfits (non-stat gear) are available for GOLD! On occasion, KI has even been known to let us have pets for gold for a limited time (i.e. The Snow Owl from Christmas 2012) Even those 10,000 Crown School Houses, are available for Gold! WOOHOO!

Open the crown shop by clicking the crown in the top left of your screen.  Now click on the item you want to purchase, let's say you want a chestnut pony. Under the picture you will notice a tab that says Crowns and one that says Gold. Click on Gold, there is the price of gold for that mount. (50,000 Gold, sounds like a lot in the beginning, but once you level you'll make that in a day or less!)

Training points? What do i do with them!?

Training points are received 2 ways.

You can earn them by leveling up. You gain one training point every 4 levels from level 1-20. Then every 5 levels from 20-90.

The second way is to complete various quests throughout the spiral. Prospector Zeke is in EVERY single world of the spiral and has fun hide and seek type quests for you. There are guides to all of these available on various websites to show you exactly where to go, but I personally like to try to find them myself first.
Wizard101central.com has the best guides to this and any other quest you need help with.

Training points are used to train spells from schools other than your Primary school of magic.  Those spells are always free. So if you are Death, all your death spells are free and you get to spend your training points on spells from other schools.

What should i use my training points on?

A popular way to spend training points is as follows.

Death- 7 points trained to Feint (A Feint is a trap that adds 70% damage to your opponent, but also places a 30% trap on you. It sounds bad, but trust me, it's totally worth it once you learn to use it. This is especially helpful to low hitting schools like Life.)

Life- 6 Points trained to Satyr A Healing spell worth 850pts. (This gets you sprite at lower levels which is very helpful and then satyr at high levels.)
Ice- 6 points to Tower shield, because the tower shield is good for -50% off of ANY spell cast at you, and the ONLY effective shield against Balance magic which is universal.

But you can choose to train any way you like.

Remember that your secondary school spells will not be useable with Power Pips.  Meaning unless you have a Mastery Amulet ($20 worth of crowns or dropped by special dungeon at level 60) You will have to use more pips to use those spells.

What if I don't like the way I've Trained!?
A Mini Guide to Training Point Buyback

Mr. Lincoln in Golem Court of Wizard City can buy back your training points.

At Level 12 you may begin to buy back points. The first 3 Training points are FREE. After this there is a Fee of 350 Crowns PER POINT. If you are going to buy back your points, I suggest you do it at Level 12 and train what you really want. If you are careful with your points you can train a great deal of awesome spells, if you spend them frivolously you will be stuck with useless spells further into the game.

What do I do with left over points?

Fear not! Once you reach level 50 and Celestia, Zafaria, and Azteca, you can use those left over points to train Astral spells. I won't be covering those here, because this guide is for beginners. Avalon also has some trainable spells but your school spells in Avalon are free there too.

What Should I Wear- A Gear Guide for Beginners

There are a lot of guides for higher level wizards as far as gear goes. At the lower levels it's not AS important, but knowing about gear at an early stage can save you a lot of frustration.  First let's cover the icons and what they mean.

School Icons:

Elemental Schools

Fire School

Ice School

 Storm School

Spirit Schools
Death School

Life School

Myth School

And then there was Balance All by it's self. LOL

Balance School

GLOBAL - Meaning it gives you the boost in ALL attacks not just your school

 Gear Statistic Icons

If a School Icon is in front of ANY of the following icons then it only boosts that particular school! You want to find one that boosts YOUR school. It doesn't do a Storm wizard much good to have Ice Accuracy.  If there is no School icon in front of the following, then it provides a boost across the board. This is EXCELLENT to have in Resist! (But also hard to get at lower levels.)

Resistance -Provides a percentage of resist to spells cast on you.

Damage- Provides a percentage of Damage to Your attacks cast on the enemy.

Accuracy- STORM AND FIRE WIZARDS! THIS IS IMPORTANT! Even at low levels it helps, though you may not really notice it. Adds a percentage of Accuracy to the spells you cast.

Power Pip Chance- Raises your possibility of getting power pips at the start of each round

The Globes are kind of self explanatory. The Red Globe adds Health to your Character, the Blue Globe adds Mana, the Green globe adds energy which is important for gardening and pet training, at lower levels Energy boost is only available on some crowns gear.

Incoming/Outgoing Health Boost - Raises the Healing Power of spells by a percentage. The outgoing effects you as well as the incoming, but incoming does not help when you heal your friends. It will ALWAYS have a Life School symbol in front of the heart, because all heals are considered Life.

The following are things you can get on Crowns gear but more than likely you won't encounter these at lower levels.

Critical Rating- This is the percentage of chance that you have to make a critical hit. This becomes available to ALL wizards at level 50. However, at lower levels you can get Critical Rating and Critical Block on Crowns Gear.

Critical Block- This helps you to block Critical incoming, again at lower levels this is not needed unless you plan to PVP and is only available on Crowns gear at this low of a level.

Armor Pierce- This gives a percentage of armor piercing and helps with school resistance or shields on the enemy, raising your attack on them.

Stun Block, You won't need this in Wizard City unless you plan to Low level PVP. It raises the percentage of block to an attempt to stun you. (You can also train Stun Block from Diego in Unicorn Way FREE FOR ICE WIZARDS! for 1 Training Point to the rest of us. It's a zero pip spell that gives you 2 100% Stun Blocks)

 WHAT GEAR DO I NEED?

Well, what you can equip is what you need to better your chances of surviving the ghouls and ghosties haunting wizard city.  All of the following items offer some of the things we covered a moment ago. It's up to you to decide what is most important to your character and purchase/equip the item that will provide it.
Gear changes every 5 levels at lower levels. So when you hit levels 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. yous should go check out what new gear is available, sometimes it's not better than what you have, but sometimes it is.
Hat- At lower levels usually offer only one boost. Choose wisely!

Robe-At lower levels usually offer only one boost. Choose wisely!

Shoes- At lower levels usually offer only one boost. Choose wisely!

Athame (Knife)- Athames often offer Mana and Health, or Mana or Health at lower levels. If you fizzle a lot, you will need the mana boosts. If not the health boost comes in very handy.

Ring- Rings often offer Mana and Health, or Mana or Health at lower levels. If you fizzle a lot, you will need the mana boosts. If not the health boost comes in very handy.

Wand- Wand hits increase by 5 hit points per gear level once you reach Marleybone you can start looking for a wand that gives you an extra pip at the beginning of a duel, this means that you start with 2 instead of one.

Deck- The higher the level the more cards you can carry! Which makes sense because you're constantly getting new spells. You need a way to use them!

Now, that you know what it means, and what you need, the question becomes WHERE DO I GET IT!?

Well, simple you can get it in 4 places.
  • Drops from your duels,  free, but not necessarily for your school. ALWAYS check your backpack and make sure that you haven't picked up an item better than the one you have equipped.
  • The Crown Shop, either separately or in sets or buy farming Packs. (I don't recommend this unless you're going to pvp because you level fairly quickly in the beginning and you outgrow your gear needs.)
  • You can buy it with Gold in the specific shops in the Shopping district of any world. HOWEVER, you can buy better gear at the Bazaar in Olde Town of Wizard City for Any world/level.
  • The Wizard City Bazaar is the absolute BEST place to get low level school specific gear, it's also the best place to sell the drops you don't want and make some extra gold!

Now that I've got it, how do I put it on???

Hit the B key, this will open your backpack. Choose the equipment button at the top of the page. We'll use a hat for an example. Once you click on that all the hats in your backpack are now available to you. The ones that are red and yellow are hats that you may equip. Click on the hat that you want to wear then click the fist at the bottom of the page that says Equip. You are now wearing the hat. You can take if off the same way or switch directly to another hat. All of your equipment and gear works this way, as well as Pets and Mounts.

Good Luck! See you in the Spiral!

Gifting Do's and Don'ts

Gifting- A wonderful idea that Kings Isle Entertainment had for the players of Wizard101. Allowing us to use Crowns to purchase gifts ranging from items to Mounts for our friends!  Unfortunately not everyone in the Spiral understands that a gift is something that you get from friends and family that enjoy spending time with you and want to show it some way.

Gifting is highly exploited. Anyone with a mount or Crowns Gear will be a target, as well as new players who may not fully grasp the concept, or are tricked into gifting for something that shouldn't cost them anything. Parents have the option to turn Gifting On or Off, if you have a child that you want to buy crowns for, I highly suggest Turning Gifting Off in the Account Settings on the website. The master password is required to change this option, by no means should your child have that password.

If you wish to gift your friend something for their birthday or holiday, there's nothing wrong with that, especially when it's someone you play with a lot and has helped you a lot. However, someone running around the commons begging everyone to gift them, should by no means be gifted.

DO

If you have a friend that has helped you with a lot of things, and perhaps has a birthday or a special holiday (Christmas, valentines, etc.) Coming up, and you want to do something special for them, you can gift them.  To do this, go to the crown shop select the item that you want to gift your friend, click on the gift icon. Choose the friend you wish to gift, then click buy. Your friend will receive the gift right then, or the next time they log on if they are not online and it will tell them who it is from.

DON'T

There are also Gifting Scams, sad, but true. These are not reportable offenses and sadly you're left without your crowns and what ever was promised.  People will tell you to gift them and they'll give you Treasure cards, including rare and hard to find ones. I highly recommend avoiding such gifting practices, you are more likely getting ths short end of the stick in these deals. Most TC can be purchased at the Bazaar for Gold.  However, if you do decide to make such a trade MAKE THEM GIVE YOU THOSE CARDS BEFORE YOU GIFT THEM. Otherwise you stand the chance of two things happening, either they won't give you ANY treasure cards, and disappear quickly, OR they give you treasure cards that were not in the original bargain, and again disappear quickly.

Others will charge you a gifting fee to use their Pagoda or other goodies. Again, this is up to you, however i suggest you don't. There are a lot of people who will let you use their pagodas for free, and that need help to get through it themselves,  they will charge you nothing, and you may make a very good new friend.

Wizard101 Chat Dictionary

There are a lot of things said in chat that I've had people ask me what they meant, especially new members and young wizards.  In this post I will cover the most frequently misunderstood terms used in game.

Pertaining to the Game it's self:

AL/AV (Depends on who your talking to) - Avalon (A world of the Spiral) based on King Arthur's Tales

AZ- Azteca (A World of the Spiral and currently the final world of the game) Based on Dinosaurs & The Aztecs (Perhaps because they're both extinct?)

CL- Celestia (A world of the spiral) Based on Extraterrestrials (aliens!)

Crit- CRITICAL! When someone Critical hits the world flashes over their head and they do Double Damage if the hit is not Blocked.

CB- Critical Block, this means that the opponent blocked the critical hit.

Crowns- A form of REAL money used in the Spiral. This is gained in 3 ways. 1 Purchase of Crowns from the Wizard101 website or in game by choosing "Buy Crowns" , Redeeming a prepaid card purchased at a store in amounts from $10-20 (these come with a free pet, varying dependent upon which store you buy it from.)  or by recruiting paying members (a very small gift of crowns is received when a friend uses a code you give them when activating a new account.)

Drops- Items received from Duels or Quests. These are your rewards. Sometimes gold, pets, treasure cards or gear.

DS- Dragonspyre (A world of the spiral) World of dragons and also the place where you will finally face off with Malistaire for the first time!

Farming- This means you are trying to collect drops, gold, or experience points, it does not mean you are planting and harvesting vegetables.

Fizz- Meaning the Fizzle of a spell (or failure of a spell to cast)

Gift Me- They want you to buy them something with crowns. There will be a blog entry on this later. (I do not recommend gifting to anyone that you don't know, nor do I condone asking for gifts. Crowns are REAL money, and expensive. Gifting your friend for their birthday or holidays is one thing but gifting random people for no reason gets you nothing but trouble.

GH- Grizzleheim (A world of the spiral) Based on Viking Culture

Gold- In Game Money earned from questing, gardening, games, and many other activities

KT- Krokotopia (A world of he Spiral) Based on Egypt

Mali- Malistaire, the First BIG Baddy we face he is the final boss in Dragonspyre.

MB- Marleybone (A world of the spiral) Based on Sherlock Holmes and London

MS- Mooshu (A world of the spiral) Based on Ancient Japanese Culture

Mute- A term used to describe a character that can't talk, either because she/he's got Menu Chat or has been Muted by the Game Admins for saying things they shouldn't.

NBC- No Block Critical (You won't see this much until you hit level 50 when you receive Critical Rating, even then it's rare)

Noob- This is a term used to describe a new player. It's not a nice thing to call someone, but it can also be used to describe certain spells, and white power pips. (I.E. "Check out my noob pips" (Person has mostly white pips)

Packs- refers to Booster packs available in the Crown shop from 115-399 crowns each.

PP- Power Pips (Yellow Pips which count as 2 pips)

Practice PVP- FREE pvp matches that DO NOT effect your PVP standings.

PVP- Player Vs. Player (Done in the Arena at Unicorn Way in Wizard City.)

Questing- Meaning that you're doing your quest to level up or get to the next world.

Rank- Refers to a Ranked Match- A term for a PVP match that gains you gold, tickets and PVP points and if you win possibly a title.  (Available only to Subscribing Members or those paying PER match with Crowns)

Spinning- (An action performed by hitting left or right arrow key and shift at the same time but there's a trick, release the arrow just before you release the shift key.) It makes your character spin in circles while you are away from your keyboard, after so long you will be disconnected due to inactivity if you do not spin.

SPUD pet- A pet that has the talents of Spritely, spell Proof, Unicorn, and spell Defy. These pets are coveted amongst PVP players, but are also handy in questing.

Sub - This means Subscription and is another term for Membership.

TC- Treasure Cards, which you obtain from drops, gardening,  trading, etc.

Trade- Trading Treasure Cards, a useful practice. (NEVER GIFT FOR Treasure Cards! EVER! This is a rip off scam some kids (or adults) try to pull)  All TC available for trade can also be bought for gold from the Bazaar in Olde Town of Wizard City.

Undying Malistaire- Final Boss in Azteca.

WC- Wizard City (A world of the spiral) This is your home world, and the world you start out in.

WT- Wintertusk (A world of the spiral, located in Grizzleheim) Also based on Viking Culture.

WW- Waterworks -A level 60 Dungeon with coveted Legendary Level gear drops located in Crab Alley on Triton Avenue in Wizard City.

Wysteria- (A world of the spiral)  This is a side world that is not required, but it's a lot of fun and cute. I think it's loosely based on the Tri-Wizard Tournament from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but that's just my opinion.  You get some great rewards here, The Spiral Cup Trophy and a Golden Piggle to name a few.

XP- a shortened term for Experience.(This can also be used as a smiley face giving a raspberry depending on context)

ZF- Zafaria (A world of the Spiral) Based on African Safaris

Chat Dictionary for Us older folks-
These are terms used in the game that some of us older folks may need to know. Most of today's youth are very comfortable with the acronyms of Chat and texting, but a lot of us don't know what they mean!

AFK- Away From Keyboard

ATM- At The Moment (For once nothing to do with Money!)
BRB- Be Right Back

Cya- See you around
