Mounts, what do they do and are they worth it?

White Stag Mount

First, a mount is a WONDERFUL thing to have. Not only do they look cool, but they add 40% speed to your characters travel when they are equipped! This means you move around a lot faster. There are certain places that your mount can't go with you and you will notice the difference in your speed.  If for some reason, you just don't want a mount, you can buy boots in the crown shop for gold that make you move as fast as you would with a mount.

Mounts are available in several ways. You can RENT mounts from Prospector Zeke for gold, this is a 24 hour purchase. The timer starts the moment you buy it and ends the next day at the exact same time.

You can BUY a Permanent mount with crowns (and some with gold) in the crown shop, you own this mount for the lifetime of the game. It is a no sale no trade item that you can't not get rid of other than to trash it. They can be removed from your backpack and placed as an item in your dorm or yard, they run around and play when you do this. It can be quite entertaining.

Mounts available for gold include:

For 50,000 Gold
Chestnut Pony
Enchanted Broom

For 70,000
Black Stallion
Horned Sweeper

For 85,000
Blue Dragon
Royal Lioness

For 90,000
Bengal Tiger
Dark Redwing
Proud Lion

Crown Rentals- These mounts cost less crowns and last for 7 days, during that 7 day rental you have the option to pay the balance of the mount's crown shop price and own that mount permanently.  It's a nifty way to try out a mount and see if you like it before spending the full amount, as some of them are quite pricey.

I don't recommend the larger mounts, as it's hard to see where you're going and increases the possibility of accidentally being drawn into battle unprepared.

You can FARM certain bosses for Temporary (24 hr) mounts, Lady Blackhope in Unicorn way is good for brooms and the occasional chestnut pony.

Special Mounts not available in the Crown shop are recieved one of three ways. Some come with the bundle sets on prepaid cards or from Wizard101.com. It usually includes a mount, house, pet, and gear. Some Only include a Mount, Pet, and gear.

Other Special mounts are available only as ULTRA-RARE drops from crown Packs. There is exactly a 5% chance of getting these mounts from the packs. Every time you buy a pack you only have a 5% chance of getting one, the chance resets with every pack. I do not recommend trying to get a mount this way you could spend every last crown you have and not get anything worth having paid crowns for.

 Two/Three Person Mounts-
These are available only in bundles and packs.
Hydra- Hoard of the Hydra Pack
Skyvern Mount-  Skyvern's Hoard Pack
Blood Raven- Raven's Hoard Pack
Rhino- Super Bundle
Phoenix Mount- Phoenix Hoard Pack
Pterodactyl- Prehistoric Bundle

Seen a mount that you can't find in the Crown Shop and doesn't come in packs? It's probably retired.

Fa-La-La-La-La-La Llama

Meowmodon (White Tiger)
